On Sunday the 25th of June, players from YMCA Cheltenham FC congregated at the Gloucester City Football ground to play rival team Man v Fat. The YMCA Cheltenham Football Team is made up of residents and staff from across our Cheltenham and Gloucester sites.
The game was played in honour of Morgan Brick, who sadly passed away last month. The match started with a one-minute clap in honour of Morgan who loved playing football, and was the brother of Zach, YMCA Cheltenham’s captain for the match.
The first half started strongly for YMCA Cheltenham with several shots at goal. Their keeper Dan, was on top form, making some fantastic dives and reaching some tricky shots by the opposition.
YMCA Cheltenham’s Joel scored, followed by an equaliser from Man v Fat. Due to it being so hot, regular substitutions were made on both teams and players were encouraged to keep hydrated.
As the match progressed, YMCA Cheltenham continued to dominate the ball with Jake, Jordan and Zach all scoring some great goals.
The match ended in a 5-1 victory to YMCA Cheltenham.
Zach dedicated his goal to his brother, stating “That one was for Morgan; I knew he was looking down on me.”
Dave Kinghorn – Head of Operations and a YMCA Cheltenham player summed up the football match:
“It was good; we all played in the right way. It was great for the residents and staff to be able to come together and play in honour of Morgan. I’m so pleased Zach was able to score a goal. A good result.”
