YMCA Cheltenham is one of the oldest and largest providers of specialised housing in Gloucestershire. We provide more than 1,750 beds per week, including supported accommodation for people affected by homelessness and those requiring a helping hand before living independently in the community.
Head of Operations, David Kinghorn, was recently interviewed by Rakhee Gogna from BBC Radio Gloucestershire about our new and innovative approach to homelessness. The ‘PATHWAY HOME‘ model was created, developed and successfully implemented by the YMCA Cheltenham team.
Rolled out to our Gloucester residents in October 2022, the PATHWAY HOME aims to provide tailored care for individuals which will enable them to become fully tenancy ready on completion. Each resident is assigned a Housing Support Worker who will assess their needs and identify the best ways to support them during their journey to independent living. This could include debt advice, cooking skills, learning how to become more resilient, advice on budgeting, identifying and maintaining positive support networks, plus much more.
YMCA Cheltenham believes that every person who enters the PATHWAY HOME will:
- Enjoy personal economic independence potential
- Be Socially active
- Have positive support networks in place
- Experience personal resilience
- Continue to enjoy ‘Pathway Home’ access
- Have experienced safety and reduction of harm
- Be protected from repeat homelessness
- Be fully tenancy ready
