Since 1855, YMCA Cheltenham has been a vital part of Gloucestershire’s story. Through housing, family support, and community programmes, we’ve worked side by side with local people to provide not just services but opportunities to thrive. As we celebrate our 170th year, we reflect on a legacy of compassion, resilience, and progress.
YMCA Cheltenham was founded during a time of significant change, born from a vision to create a place of safety and support for young men. As the decades passed, we responded to the evolving needs of the community. From offering shelter during the First and Second World Wars to launching modern housing projects like Coronation Court, our work has always been grounded in the belief that everyone deserves the chance to belong and contribute.
Over the years, our services have expanded to reach individuals and families across the region. Some of our key achievements this year include:
These figures reflect the scale of our impact, but the real story lies in the people we serve.
When Jayden came to St Michael’s House, he was at a crossroads. With support from YMCA Cheltenham, he found stability, rediscovered his confidence, and began planning for a brighter future. “The staff believed in me when I couldn’t,” he shared.
As we look ahead, our mission remains clear: to provide housing, hope, and opportunity for all. Rising costs, increasing demand for affordable housing, and ongoing challenges for families mean our work is more important than ever. Together with our community, we aim to expand our reach, strengthen our services, and continue building a Gloucestershire where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
